Last week, LabCorp announced the availability of its OvaSure™ product – an ovarian cancer screening blood test. 
LabCorp is marketing the product as being able to assess the presence of early stage ovarian cancer in high-risk
women.  In its promotional materials LabCorp cites a recent Yale University School of Medicine study of high-risk
and average risk women in which the OvaSure blood test appears to be able to “discriminate between disease free
women and ovarian cancer patients.”

SGO leadership has reviewed the materials and the studies noted by LabCorp and have some reservations regarding
the marketing of this test into the general population without further investigation and research.  SGO has developed
the following “Statement Regarding the OvaSure Product” and suggests members use this statement if contacted by
patients and/or local media regarding this product’s use and introduction into the marketplace.

SGO is also working with GCF, GOG and other concerned organizations to prevent any misinformation regarding
the reliability and general use of this product.
